At a recent meeting of Burke’s Board of Trustees, State Representative James White presented a Texas flag to Colonel Howard E. Daniel, Jr., US Army retired. The flag had been flown over the state capitol in Austin, and was given to the Colonel in appreciation for his ongoing dedication and service to the community. Representative White said, “We are proud of Colonel Howard Daniel’s service to our country as a military veteran and his continued service to our Southeast Texas community as a pastor, community leader, and chairman of Burke.
Representative White also recognized Col. Daniel for his many years of work as coordinator of the Annual Polk County Multicultural Festival. Colonel Daniel said, “As coordinator, it was a pleasure to work with the entire community across all ethnic and racial lines to culminate such an event.”
Appointed to the Burke Board of Trustees in September of 1999, Col. Daniel represents Polk and San Jacinto Counties. In 2011, he was elected Chairman of the Burke Board of Trustees, a position he currently holds. Daniel has a B.S. Degree from Prairie View A&M University, as well as a Master’s Degree from Kansas State University. Having retired from military service, Daniel is presently the founder, president and owner of the Personal Development Specialist Company located in Livingston, Texas.
