Members of Burke’s Essential Services Program recently gave a presentation to the families of children with disabilities who attend Lufkin High School, in particular those who have been diagnosed with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), or a related condition such as Autism. Also attending the presentation were representatives from several other agencies that work with people with disabilities.
Burke’s Lois Vinson and Charmis Nerren spoke on the various services and supports that are offered to families through the Essential Services Program. These include services coordination, respite services (in-home and out-of-home), employment services, vocational training, day habilitation, behavioral health and counseling services, nursing services, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy. Placement services options such as group homes and state supported living centers were also reviewed and discussed.
