In June of 2017, KTRE was presented with the Frank M. Adams award at the TX Council’s Annual Conference. Burke nominated KTRE for their work in promoting mental health awareness in their weekly Survivor Series. Watch this video to learn more about the award.
KTRE’s Survivor Series highlights members of the local community and the challenging obstacles they have overcome in life. KTRE journalists work to showcase these “survivors” in a compassionate way. Every story ends with a life lesson that may provide hope and promise for someone coping with a similar obstacle.
KTRE has aired Survivors every week since September of 2015 in the highly rated Wednesday Evening News segment. Since 2016, Burke has helped KTRE identify residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities, or those managing mental health and substance use challenges.
