On Thursday, November 20, 2014 we celebrated the grand opening of the Angelina Mental Health Services at 1522 West Frank Street in Lufkin. Our thanks to the Board of East Texas Behavioral Resources, the Burke Board of Trustees and so many of you who made this possible.
Over 350 people attended the event. Speakers included State Representative Trent Ashby and Associate Commissioner of the Texas Health and Human Services Sonja Gaines. Both spoke of the impact being made by Burke in helping those with mental illness or developmental disabilities. Burke was described as a great partner, reaching out to work with other organizations to promote health and well-being.
With this Open House we also launched a new program. In cooperation with Angelina Cities and Counties Health District, we are providing primary care services to Burke clients not already receiving medical care elsewhere.
“This is a great benefit for mental health consumers. Studies have shown many often lack access to medical services, putting them at risk of dying as many as twenty-five years earlier than the general population,” said Susan Rushing, CEO. “We continue to look for ways to expand the benefits we can provide to those we serve. Healthcare is changing and so must we.”
