Often, mental health professionals feel under-prepared for working with clients from the LGBTQ communities, especially when those clients are adolescents. This workshop will look at the psychosocial forces at work in the life of teens, in the context of their adolescent development, who are exploring their gender or sexuality. We will explore an ecological system theory of development to understand adolescence and LGBTQ identity development better. The workshop will include interactive activities and multimedia components.

Workshop Objectives:
Learn the ethical considerations when working with LGBTQ youth.
Learn how normal adolescent development intersects with an LGBTQ identity development.
Learn a model to consider how psychosocial forces impact the LGBTQ identity development of adolescents.
Learn how to effectively address issues of LGBTQ identity development with adolescents in therapeutic contexts.

This program has applied for 3.0 hours of continuing education hours for social workers, LPC’s and LMFT’s.
